My Top 3 Sweat Hacks for Festivals

My Top 3 Sweat Hacks for Festivals

Ever wondered how to cope with excessive sweating at a festival?

When you already sweat heavily in regular, everyday settings, the idea of standing in the glaring heat for hours can feel less than ideal. And yet, the live music, friends and atmosphere make you want to go anyway.

I recently went to a Carnaval party in Brazil, and I planned ahead to ensure the heat wouldn't get the better of me. These are the three hacks I used so I could actually enjoy the day instead of monitoring my sweat the whole time.

If you'd rather hear to me talk about it, I've shared a vlog as well.

1. Topical antiperspirant

This one was purely about minimising underarm sweat. Back in Australia, I normally use No More Sweat. But since I'm in Brazil at the moment, I had to find something else. Luckily I found one at a local pharmacy. It's called Perspirex and ironically it's also available in Australia. I just hadn't discovered it until now. They have three strengths, and naturally, I went for the strongest one. It was extremely effective. I only applied it twice, four days apart, and I didn't sweat from my underarms for nearly a week. For someone who usually sweats daily, that felt crazy. I forgot how good topical antiperspirant is to use for managing sweating. That being said, I did find it irritating too. If I repurchase, I'll probably try one of the lower strengths.

2. Wearing bike shorts underneath your outfit

Bike shorts under skirts and dresses are underrated. They're great for some added protection for sweat. Under my skirt, I wore Lorna Jane Run Shorts that have a phone pocket. I wore these mainly for safety so I could keep my phone hidden to prevent theft. But they were perfect under my skirt. Albeit it was slightly bulky, because the skirt had movement the shorts added extra volume underneath which I didn't mind. Normally, I'd dislike wearing extra layers in case I felt hot, but in this instance I didn't think twice about it. Pic of my outfit below - not visible: the bike shorts.

3. Using a good setting spray to keep your makeup intact

In the sun and humidity, makeup melting can be an issue. I bought the MAC Fix Plus Stay Over setting spray because it came in a small travel bottle. I haven't used this particular one before, but thought, "How bad could it be?" In Australia, my go-to has always been the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. It's been my favourite for years. but I didn't bring it with me this time. I thought the MAC setting spray held up pretty well. My face was definitely shiny by the end of the day, but I didn't bring anything to touch up with. This is expected in such hot weather. All in all, I would recommend!

Festivals and hot weather events can feel intimidating when you live with excessive sweating. From the outfit, to the footwear, to holding anything with sweaty hands. But with some preparation and little adjustments you can make it much more fun for yourself.
