The Ultimate Guide for Sweat Proof Wedding Guest Dresses

The Ultimate Guide for Sweat Proof Wedding Guest Dresses

It's summer and you've been invited to a wedding. A formal event in hot weather, and you have excessive sweating. These things combined don't equate to an ideal experience.

How do you overcome it?

What matters the most to me is finding a dress that hides sweat, which is usually a small challenge if you don't know what to look for. If you've been reading my articles for a while, you'll know that it annoys me how polyester clothing plagues the fashion world. Especially with formal wear.

So how do you find sweat proof wedding guest dresses?

Most websites have a filter for material so you can choose which ones you like; viscose, tencel, silk, cotton etc. This is extremely helpful. The only downside is that the results appear quite limited the majority of the time (due to most clothing being polyester or other synthetics). However, sites like The Outnet and The Iconic are amazing because they stocking a variety of brands, which in turn have a variety of clothes and fabrications.

As I have four weddings coming up this year, I did some browsing on both of these sites to put together six wedding guest outfits, complete with shoes, a bag, and earrings. I picked these dresses for their fabric composition and print design.

All outfits feature socks/sockettes too, of course. Can't go anywhere without socks. Actual socks are my preference, but sometimes sockettes will just have to do. Especially if you want to wear a dress that's not 100% floor length, but don't want the awkward sock look or sock length cutoff. All the bags have straps (even though they may not be pictured here). There's no way I'm holding a clutch for the whole event with sweaty hands, no thank you!

But there are some exceptions with synthetics. You can't always avoid them completely, and sometimes the dress and print design is good enough that you won't care about the fabric.

Read on to see exactly what makes each dress sweat proof and why I chose it. Then you'll also know what to look for when shopping for your next event.

Outfit #1

Made from 55% silk 45% viscose, this fabric composition is a great combination to hide sweat, coupled with the black and red floral print. The floaty style is a bonus as it won't cling to your body.

NICHOLAS - Ruffled floral-print silk-chiffon gown

ALDO - Tinslamini earrings

Olga Berg - Zephyr sequin clutch

Toes Home - Cotton no-show sockettes

Tony Bianco - Niki scarlet suede heels

Outfit #2

Being 100% silk dress this dress will feel light and cool. The busy blue floral print will hide sweat well. Even though it's long sleeve, it would be a great option for an evening event when it starts to cool off at night.

Izoa - Aria drop stud earrings

Olga Berg - Caroline wavy clutch (gold)

Toes Home - Cotton no-show sockettes

Beautiisoles by Robyn Shreiber - Oxsana blue linen & leather heels

Outfit #3

Another 100% silk dress. I particularly love the print design of this dress and its business for hiding sweat. It's mainly pinks but with a pop of blue which makes it quite different.

Olga Berg - Pedro sequin pouch

Bonds - Womens supersoft crew socks

Jonak - Vallon heels

Outfit #4

This might seem a little contradictory, but clothes that have some polyester in them can be a good option. This Pilgrim dress is 35% cotton 65% polyester. In my experience this sort of fabric composition that's close to 50/50 isn't as hot as 100% poly and is more breathable thanks to the cotton. It's something to look out for!

And I know this dress is plain navy, which is not the style I'd usually recommend. However, the skirt layers mean there's extra fabric for sweat absorption without relying on a single layer (which sweat would usually show on). And to keep armpit sweat at bay you can use No More Sweat Spray or Carpe antiperspirant deodorant leading up to the event for minimal sweat. Personally, I haven't used Carpe antiperspirant deodorant, but I have used No More Sweat and liked the results.

Pilgrim - Seera ruffle maxi dress

Izoa - Tana heart stud earrings

Olga Berg - Carlita carnivale fringe clutch bag

Toes Home - Cotton no-show sockettes

Edward Meller - Allegra100 pointed stiletto pump (bronze)

Outfit #5

This dress screams summer. It's sleeveless, beautifully tiered, and the fabric composition is 70% French linen 30% mulberry silk with 100% cotton lining. All ticks for being sweat proof with the fabric, print design, and layered style.

Details:

Aqua Blu Australia - Tempest constance dress

Stephanie Browne - Sakura earrings

Olga Berg - Nic envelope clutch

Toes Home - Cotton no-show sockettes

Beautiisoles by Robyn Shreiber - Frida baby pink kitten heels

Outfit #6

My least favourite in terms of material as it's 93.5% nylon 6.5% elastane. But as I said in the beginning, there are some exceptions to avoiding synthetics. This dress is mesh so it should be light to wear and breathable to some extent. The print being a green and black floral makes it a good disguise for sweat too. Two out of three points for sweat proof effectiveness, I would give this dress a chance.

Details:

Azzurielle - Eliza printed mesh maxi dress

Zahar - Jenny earrings

Olga Berg - Mabel crystal top handle bag

Toes Home - Cotton no-show sockettes

Valentina Rangoni - Simply pump menta nadia glitter heels
