5 Sweat Hacks for Surviving a Wedding as a Woman with Hyperhidrosis
Have you been invited to a wedding recently and are freaking out about how to keep your sweat at bay?
For the women navigating life with hyperhidrosis, this is for you!
Here are five sweat hacks I used last month to prepare for the waterworks and prevent unnecessary sweat marks on my dress (because it wasn't sweat-friendly and I bought it last minute, my bad...).

#1 Topical Antiperspirant
From experience, I know that high strength antiperspirant works well at preventing my underarm sweat. I used Perspirex (strong) for this occasion and applied it to my underarms for 2 consecutive nights prior to the wedding, and even tried it on my hands and feet but that didn’t work so well. I felt a burning sensation in my hands the next day when my sweat was starting to form, and it was soooo uncomfortable. It put me off trying it on my hands again. But it was highly effective for my underarms!
You can quickly pick up a high strength aluminium chloride antiperspirant from your local pharmacy or online. It can be applied to you underarms, hands and feet. A few brands that I like are:
Perspirex Strong Antiperspirant Roll-On
No More Sweat Total Body Clinical Antiperspirant Spray
Driclor Roll-On Antiperspirant

#2 Bike Shorts
I wore bike shorts as a preventative barrier in case I got really hot and sweat through the dress. Bike shorts are helpful if you experience thigh sweat, to stop it dripping down your legs. Big bonus. They can be any kind of bike short that's comfortable for you. Depending on your outfit you may want a seamless option, or any exercise type that you already have at home. I opted to wear seamless body smoothing ones because I wore a slip style dress so didn't want obvious short seams showing through.

#3 Sockettes
Want to wear socks and heels without it looking obvious? Sockettes are your solution. Easy to wear with enclosed shoes from ballet pumps to stilettos. I prefer cotton material for these. The heels I wore to the wedding (read full article about the heels here) were fully enclosed and sockettes were perfect to absorb sweat from my feet and make me feel more comfortable. I even packed a spare pair in my bag so I could change them if I wanted to.
The sockettes were a little big and ended up slipping off my heels and bunched up under my feet, so I was only half wearing them anyway for most of the night. I was glad that the inside of my heels were a fabric material which helped me have some grip in the shoe. Make sure you buy the right size sockettes!

#4 A Hand Towel
This is a MUST to have in your bag. You can find small ones out there that will fit in a clutch. But it’s truly an essential item to dry hands or pits when you’re in a pinch. Again, cotton is my preference but a good absorbent microfiber type will work great too.

My main concern was my sweaty hands because I couldn’t dry them on my dress without sweat showing. So, I carried my trusty hand towel in my bag to dry my hands. But I also styled my bag handle with a silk scarf for two reasons - to act as a hand towel and also look chic.

#5 Holding a Cold Drink
My final sweat hack is to hold a cold drink to disguise sweaty hands. The condensation hides any sweat and is the most practical tip you can use in most situations. It’s easy to find a cold drink at functions. There’s usually an overwhelming amount of napkins available too, which I love to hold with my drink as an absorbent barrier. Sometimes I don’t know what to do with my hands if I’m in conversation and they’re just sweating. This solves that dilemma.
These are my sweat prevention methods I used to prepare for wearing a bold coloured dress to a wedding (something I would normally never do). I hope you found these sweat hacks useful!
